Victim Found Buried; Accused Confesses in Police Custody

by Ananya Mehta

Chhattisgarh police have arrested an Army jawan, Baleshwar Kunjoor, from the cantonment area in connection with the alleged murder of a 37-year-old maid, Santosh.

The victim, a resident of Chaudhry Colony near the cantonment, went missing on March 11. Her husband filed a missing person complaint after she did not return home. Her body was recovered from a forest area within the cantonment yesterday. Post-mortem reports indicated injury marks on her head and face, and police confirmed she had been tied up and buried near a park.

Police produced the accused in court, which granted a two-day police remand. During interrogation, Kunjoor reportedly confessed to the crime and led officers to the burial site. Evidence such as a torn T-shirt and mobile phone tracking helped police identify and apprehend him.

The victim had been working in the cantonment staff quarters for four to five years and is survived by two children. The investigation continues, with police adding murder charges to the initial case.
