A Monongalia County, West Virginia, woman has been charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury following an investigation into injuries sustained by a 14-day-old infant.
Detectives with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on October 14 after receiving a referral from Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding possible abuse at a residence on Dunkard Avenue in Westover. CPS arranged for the infant to be evaluated at a hospital and took custody of the child.
Medical professionals determined the infant had multiple serious injuries that were non-accidental and inconsistent with childbirth. Investigators later learned that the child’s father, Timothy Reichard, accused the mother, Cheyann Nicole Reichard, 21, of causing the injuries.
A search warrant was executed at the residence, and evidence recovered supported the medical findings. Based on the investigation, Reichard was charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The case remains under active investigation.
