Chetpet police have arrested three individuals, including a juvenile, in connection with the murder of 24-year-old S. Sainath, a resident of Kolathur.
Authorities reported that Sainath, who had a history of criminal cases, was discovered dead in the Cooum River beneath the Mehta Nagar bridge in Chetpet on Saturday. The body was recovered by police and sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem, which confirmed the cause of death as murder.
Further investigations revealed that Anbarasan, Bharat (also known as Kulla Bharat), and a 17-year-old boy from Shenoy Nagar were responsible for the crime. Anbarasan reportedly planned the murder because his sister was romantically involved with Sainath.
Police seized the murder weapon, a knife, along with a two-wheeler used by the suspects during the crime.
While the two adult suspects were presented in court on Sunday, the juvenile will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board today.
