In a major real estate fraud bust, Gosaninuagaon police have arrested Chetan Kumar Choudhury (43), the alleged mastermind behind a Rs5 crore land scam involving fake residential plot allotments in Berhampur, Odisha.
Choudhury, who resides at Rajarani Residency, operated under the company name Saadhvi Construction & Logistics. Between August 2019 and September 2021, he reportedly duped over 200 investors by offering plots in a fictitious project titled ‘Mayuri Vihar’, promising allotments under a monthly instalment-based scheme.
The scam came to light when A. Santosh Kumar Patro, a field agent and accountant for the firm, lodged a complaint. According to Patro, Choudhury had directed employees to collect instalments and issue receipts. However, when investors began demanding their promised plots, Choudhury denied all involvement, claiming the receipts were fake and disowning any responsibility.
Following the complaint, police seized key evidence including:
A layout plan of the fictitious ‘Mayuri Vihar’ project
190 pages of daily collection slips
96 pages of money receipts issued to victims
Choudhury has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating and criminal breach of trust. Authorities suspect more victims may come forward as the investigation continues.
