Chesterfield Teacher Arrested for Taking Inappropriate Photos of Juvenile in Movie Theater Bathroom
CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) — Colonial Heights police arrested Shaun Jason Adams, a 49-year-old Chesterfield middle school teacher, after he was caught taking photos of a juvenile in a movie theater bathroom.
On July 22, around 11:45 a.m., authorities responded to a call from Southpark Mall security reporting a man photographing a child in the restrooms at Regal Cinemas, located at 300 Southpark Circle. Police identified the suspect as Adams, who voluntarily came to the station at investigators’ request and allowed them to review his phone.
Officers discovered the illicit image in the phone’s deleted files. However, investigators are still working to confirm the photo’s metadata to verify the exact time and location it was taken. “We don’t yet know if the image was captured inside the bathroom or earlier without a full search warrant to retrieve GPS data,” said Colonial Heights Police Sgt. Desiree McCurry.
Despite this, Adams was charged with one felony count of possessing child pornography. A search warrant was executed at his Petersburg residence, where authorities seized multiple electronic devices for further examination by Virginia State Police. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Adams worked as a language arts teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle School in Chesterfield County. The school system has been notified, and he will not return to work pending the outcome of his legal case. The new school year is set to begin on August 18.
Shaun Jason Adams remains held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail and is scheduled to appear at Colonial Heights Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on September 18.
