CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg school therapist has been charged with attempted murder and stalking, authorities report.
Charlotte Police said the investigation began on Friday involving 43-year-old Cheryl Gates, an employee of the school system. Officers located and arrested Gates, who was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Gates faces multiple charges, including:
Attempted murder
Contaminating food or drink to render someone mentally incapacitated or physically helpless
Stalking
Damage to property
Police emphasized that the incident occurred off school property and did not involve any students, teachers, or school staff. Officials did not provide details regarding the motive behind the charges.
