CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother was arrested after firing gunshots at a back-to-school event in Charlotte on Saturday, August 9, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. during a community fair at the C.W. Williams Community Health Center on Wilkinson Boulevard. Authorities say 34-year-old Cherez Davis discharged two rounds into the air in an attempt to break up a fight.
According to court records, the altercation began with an argument involving Davis’s son and another boy, which escalated when another adult intervened. Davis then retrieved a Taurus G6 handgun from her backpack and fired twice to disperse the crowd.
Witnesses reported panic as over 100 people scattered immediately following the gunfire, but no injuries were reported. Police quickly located Davis based on a description and took her into custody.
She was charged with going armed to the terror of the people and carrying a concealed firearm. The gun used in the incident was confiscated as evidence.
Davis was released on a $50,000 bond as the investigation continues.
