In a significant arrest, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai city police nabbed B Sivashankari, a 45-year-old physical education teacher, for swindling Rs 51 lakh from several victims. Sivashankari promised to secure teaching and office assistant jobs in schools run by the Church of South India (CSI) for her targets. However, she handed out fake appointment orders, deceiving them into believing they had secured positions.

Sivashankari, employed at a government-aided school in Perambur, had claimed that there were vacancies for teachers and office assistants in CSI schools. She charged Rs 7 lakh for the teacher’s position and Rs 2.5 lakh for the office assistant role. Ezhuamalai and his relatives fell victim to her scam, paying a total of Rs 25 lakh in exchange for five fake job appointment orders. Upon realizing the fraud, they approached the police.

The CCB’s job racket wing conducted an investigation, leading to Sivashankari’s arrest. Further inquiries revealed that she had cheated at least six other people, collecting an additional Rs 26 lakh. The authorities are continuing to investigate the extent of her fraudulent activities.
