Chennai Police Bust SIM Box Network, 6 Arrested

VoIP scam gang linked to China exposed in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu State Cybercrime Wing arrested six individuals for operating an international SIM box network used to facilitate Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls for cyber scam gangs working under Chinese handlers.

Details of the Operation

Police seized 14 high-capacity SIM box setups across Chennai suburbs and Madurai. Investigations revealed:

Devices were supplied from Hwang Ho district, China.

SIM boxes were operated in gated communities in Kanathur, Kelambakkam (ECR), and Madurai.

Suspects were lured by a Chinese handler with promises of commission.

Sarath Kumar and his brother managed the devices when payments were delayed.

Multiple bank and trust accounts were opened with Saravanakumar’s help to conceal large-value transactions.

The SIM boxes were linked to several cybercrime cases across Tamil Nadu, including one registered at Kancheepuram cybercrime police station.
