Chelsey Schuyler Charged with Welfare Fraud in Montgomery Co.

Authorities say she failed to report income on SNAP forms

Montgomery County, NY — A St. Johnsville woman is facing felony charges after authorities say she provided false information on a SNAP application.

Chelsey Schuyler, 21, was arrested on May 30 following a joint investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, the Department of Social Services, and the District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators say Schuyler failed to disclose income earned within her household while applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. She has been charged with:

First-degree offering a false instrument for filing (felony)

Fourth-degree welfare fraud (felony)

Schuyler was processed at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and later arraigned in the City of Amsterdam Court. She was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
