Chattanooga, Tenn. — A Chattanooga man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting another man to death in an abandoned multi-unit complex on the 2600 block of Glenwood Parkway.
The incident took place early Thursday morning, when 22-year-old Isaiah Zachary Berry called 911 to report that he had shot someone. When police arrived, they found 55-year-old Alexander Newton with life-threatening injuries in the doorway of a rear bedroom. Newton later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to a police affidavit, Berry told officers that he had been sleeping in the abandoned complex when Newton entered, yelling, and pulled a blanket off of him. Berry claims this led to a confrontation that resulted in the fatal shooting.
Berry, who was still at the scene when officers arrived, is now facing a first-degree murder charge. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have stated they will provide further updates as more details become available.
