HIGH SPRINGS, FL — A 20-year-old man from Branford, Chase Michael Coleman, was arrested on July 8 and charged with grand theft of a firearm following a reported road rage incident on Interstate 75.

According to the High Springs Police Department, officers were alerted around 12:25 p.m. to a report of a Lexus driver pointing a gun at another vehicle while heading northbound on I-75. Both vehicles reportedly exited the interstate at Exit 399 and continued north on U.S. Hwy 441.

Officers located and stopped the Lexus near High Springs Main Street. Upon exiting the vehicle, Coleman voluntarily told officers that he had both a gun and marijuana in the car.

Upon inspection, police confirmed the serial number of the firearm matched a gun reported stolen in Houston, Texas. While the initial caller had not been located for follow-up, no road rage charges were filed at the time of arrest.

After being read his Miranda rights, Coleman stated he had received the firearm through a trade with his father.

He was booked on one count of grand theft of a firearm. Court records show Coleman has juvenile convictions from 2019 and 2020, but no prior adult criminal history.

Judge Mitchell Bishop set his bail at $5,000.
