CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Charleston man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a bank robbery attempt, police said.
Bobby Ross, 56, was charged with first-degree robbery following an incident at the Truist Bank on Tennessee Avenue, according to a release from the Charleston Police Department.
Investigators said Ross entered the bank and asked a teller about loading funds onto a gift card. He then stated “this is a robbery” while keeping a hand inside his shirt, implying he had a gun.
After a few moments, the suspect fled the scene without taking any money, and no injuries were reported.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage and later identified Ross as the suspect. The Truist Bank has since been temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene.
Ross was taken into custody, and police are continuing their investigation.
