by Sophia Bennett

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police arrested a man Monday morning in connection with an alleged dog assault. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the 400 block of China Basin Street.

Officers located a male matching the suspect description in possession of a deceased dog and detained him while conducting an investigation. Witness accounts provided enough evidence for probable cause to make an arrest.

The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Charles Roy Wentworth, a San Francisco resident.

Animal Care and Control took custody of the dog and is carrying out a separate investigation.

“Violence and cruelty towards animals are unacceptable,” said SFPD Acting Commander Chris Del Gandio. “This is an extremely disturbing incident that was witnessed by our community, and our officers acted swiftly to locate the suspect and place him under arrest.”
