RABUN COUNTY, Ga. — A routine traffic stop in Rabun County led to a major drug bust earlier this week, according to the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 3, deputies stopped a blue Mercury Marquis near GA 15/US 441 and Resort Drive. The occupants were identified as Charles Kevin Vanhorn and Kimberly Sue Elliott.
During the stop, investigators discovered approximately 18 ounces of methamphetamine. Both suspects were arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and other related offenses.
Sheriff Mark Gerrells commended the deputies for their swift and professional response.
“Their alertness, professionalism, and commitment to duty continue to make a real difference in keeping our community safe,” Gerrells said.
He added that the sheriff’s office will continue to fight the spread of illegal drugs through enforcement, education, and community partnerships.
To promote transparency, the sheriff’s office announced plans to release monthly reports on drug enforcement and criminal activity, which will be made public in the coming days.
