SNEADS FERRY, NC — A 36-year-old Sneads Ferry man is facing multiple charges after authorities said a dog died due to neglect.
Charles Michael Steele was arrested on Wednesday, January 21, and charged with felony cruelty to animals, felony killing an animal by starvation, and four counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, according to arrest warrants.
Investigators allege Steele failed to provide food, water, and proper care to a dog, causing the animal’s suffering and eventual death. Warrants state Steele maliciously killed the dog by intentionally depriving it of necessary sustenance.
Authorities also allege Steele intentionally wounded or deprived four puppies of necessary care.
Steele is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 22 at the Onslow County Courthouse.
