ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – An Elizabeth City man is returning to state prison after being sentenced for drug and gun convictions over the summer.
Charles Gregory III, 36, was sentenced by Judge Louise Flanagan to 25 years in prison.
In June 2025, Gregory was convicted of:
Possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime
Possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine
Possession of a firearm by a felon
According to Elizabeth City police, Gregory was stopped during a traffic stop three years ago, where officers found crack cocaine and a firearm in his possession.
Authorities say Gregory had recently been released from prison—only four-and-a-half months earlier—after serving time for robbery with a dangerous weapon. With two or more prior felony convictions, he is classified as a career offender, which influenced his lengthy sentence.
Officials emphasize that Gregory’s case highlights the state’s ongoing efforts to address repeat offenders and drug-related crimes in the region.
