Cary police have arrested 20-year-old Charles Edward Stevenson Jr. in connection with a road rage shooting that injured a 5-year-old girl on U.S. 1. The incident occurred during Monday’s rush hour when shots were fired into a vehicle carrying the young child.

Stevenson was located in Raleigh and taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday. He faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into occupied property.

The victim, identified as Ema, was shot through the leg, with the bullet lodging in her sippy cup inside the vehicle. Ema underwent multiple surgeries and is currently in good spirits, but the injury has caused significant damage to her leg, requiring extended physical therapy.

Ema’s aunt, Aubree Allison, shared the family’s shock and pain, describing the distress experienced when receiving news of the shooting. Allison has also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Ema’s medical expenses.

The family hopes this tragic incident will inspire efforts to address gun violence in the community.
