Charles Byrd Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife and Hiding Body in Bexar County
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 39-year-old Charles Byrd, accused of killing his wife and concealing her remains for over a month inside their home in south Bexar County.
Authorities said Byrd was taken into custody on Sunday at the 21000 block of Pleasanton Road, just a mile from where the alleged murder took place on June 16 at the 22000 block of Pleasanton.
According to investigators, Byrd admitted during questioning that a domestic fight led him to fatally attack his wife. After her death, he allegedly attempted to hide her body and continued living in the residence, masking the odor with various explanations for more than 30 days.
Despite reportedly discussing the incident with several people, no one initially believed his story. Deputies later discovered what they believe to be his wife’s remains wrapped in plastic inside the home.
Bexar County Sheriff Jeff Salazar expressed shock at Byrd’s attitude during the confession. “He was very matter-of-fact as he described the violent encounter,” Salazar said. “He even told investigators, ‘Go big or go home,’ which was chilling.”
Byrd is currently charged with tampering with evidence, and further charges may follow as the investigation continues.
