A 37-year-old Chicago woman, Chante Stinson, was taken into custody Saturday following her involvement in a string of quick-change scams at Walmart stores in Davenport and across the country, according to Scott County Court documents.
Stinson faces a felony charge of ongoing criminal activity. On May 25, shortly before 7 p.m., Stinson and a co-defendant were caught inside the Walmart at 3101 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Court records state the two used a quick-change scam on an employee, which involves confusing a cashier into handing over excess cash. During this incident, the pair stole $2,400 while Stinson acted as a lookout.
Immediately after, the duo went to another Walmart at 5811 Elmore Ave., Davenport, where they repeated the scam, stealing an additional $747. They were approached by police but fled the scene.
Investigations revealed that the pair had committed 50 total theft incidents at Walmart locations nationwide—including Texas, California, Washington, and New York—between February 2023 and May 25, 2025. These scams totaled $37,842.56 in stolen funds.
Court affidavits indicate the co-defendant admitted his role to a cooperating source, stating that stealing from Walmart via quick-change scams was his job.
