Police arrested Chandu Khair, the prime suspect in the stabbing murder of 23-year-old Kamlesh Danu in Dharchula, Uttarakhand. The arrest took place near Tanakpur in Champawat district, aided by the Special Operations Group, according to Pithoragarh SP Rekha Yadav.
Khair had been evading capture since the killing on June 7, when Danu’s body, bearing multiple stab wounds, was found in Dharchula. The motive for the murder remains unclear.
An FIR under Sections 103(1)(3)(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was filed by Danu’s father the day after the incident. Using CCTV footage, police tracked down Khair. Two other suspects, Sachin Nabiyal and Ramesh Raipa, are still at large but expected to be arrested soon.
The accused fled to Nepal following the murder but reportedly returned after running out of funds. Indian authorities have coordinated with Nepalese counterparts to assist in their capture.
