In a significant breakthrough, Chandrasekharpur police under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) arrested three members of a notorious burglary gang and a receiver on Saturday. The police also seized a substantial amount of stolen property during the operation.

The accused have been identified as Subhrakanta Behera (33), alias Kajal, from Paradip; Biswajit Das (34), alias Bitu, from Mangalpur; Madhusudan Mohanty (34), alias Madhu, from Jagatsinghpur; and Sudam Charana Sahoo (receiver and owner of Jagannath Jewellery, Pradip).

Police confiscated stolen goods, including 1 kg of gold ornaments, 1.3 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 3.25 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and house-breaking implements from their possession. The arrest followed a report of a burglary at Kanan Vihar on March 30, as well as other robberies within the Nandankanan and Infocity police limits.

The gang, notorious in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Jajpur districts, is known for its expertise in house dacoities and burglaries. Armed with lethal weapons, the gang members typically break into homes, take hostages, and threaten or attack family members in case of resistance. The gang’s members, known to target houses during the day or evening, also use motorcycles for movement and communicate through mobile phones.

This gang operates under the infamous name “Kajal-Bitu-Madhu” in the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak, and Puri. They also have informers who help gather data on potential targets. After executing their burglaries, the gang sells stolen gold and silver ornaments to goldsmiths and shares the proceeds.

The members are also known to consume alcohol and ganja during their criminal activities. They typically scale boundary walls to enter their target houses through the main door.

These gang members have been involved in several dacoity and burglary cases at various police stations across the state. Following their arrest, police are continuing their investigation to crack down further on this criminal network.
