A habitual thief who preyed on women boarding crowded PMPML buses has been caught by Wanawadi police in Pune. Chandrakant Raju Jadhav (31), a resident of Mundhwa, was arrested after police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lakh from him.
On Friday, police acting on a tip-off intercepted Jadhav near a canal in the Shindevasti area of Wanawadi. He was seen suspiciously asking about jewellery shops and places to sell old gold. Upon questioning, Jadhav confessed to stealing ornaments from women by taking advantage of crowded conditions in PMPML buses.
A search revealed three gold bangles weighing approximately 40 grams (4 tolas) in his possession. Jadhav faces as many as 20 criminal cases registered against him across multiple police stations in Pune. The recovered jewellery has been seized, and the accused is in police custody.
