In a significant breakthrough, Chandigarh police have arrested two men involved in a snatching incident in Manimajra, recovering the stolen money and documents.
The case came to light after Prem Pandey (21), a resident of Shastri Nagar, filed a complaint stating that on December 16 around 4 pm, he was traveling in his auto-rickshaw from Shastri Nagar via Housing Board Chowk. When he stopped near the railway bridge on the forest side, two youths allegedly snatched Rs14,000 from his pocket along with important documents and fled into the jungle.
Police launched an extensive search of the forest area and discovered a hut being used by drug addicts, guarded by dogs and occupied by an individual dressed as a beggar. Based on clues and interrogation of the occupant, the police brought in a dog squad, cleared the hut, and demolished it.
Using CCTV footage from nearby areas and raids at various hideouts, authorities arrested the accused:
Afjal, alias Salu (30), resident of Mori Gate, Manimajra
Mohd Sahdman, alias Sadhu (25), resident of Gobindpura, Mori Gate, Manimajra
During interrogation, both allegedly confessed to hiding in the forest hut after the snatching to consume drugs. The police successfully recovered the snatched documents and articles from the accused.
Both Afjal and Sahdman have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody, and further investigations are ongoing to determine if they are linked to other similar incidents in the area.
