The UT Police Crime Branch arrested three individuals for allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin into the city. The accused—Sameer (21) and Junail (23) from Sector 25, Chandigarh, and Nihal Singh (31) from Amritsar, Punjab—have been remanded in police custody.
The investigation began with the arrest of a woman drug peddler, Pooja of Maulijagran, who was caught with heroin. Pooja revealed to police that she had purchased heroin from Sameer. Following this lead, police arrested Sameer and recovered heroin from him.
During interrogation, Sameer disclosed the involvement of Junail, who was subsequently arrested with heroin from Sector 25. Sameer also named Nihal Singh as the main supplier of heroin in the city. Police arrested Nihal Singh as well.
Authorities recovered approximately 100 grams of heroin from all three accused. Preliminary investigations suggest Nihal Singh procured the heroin from across the border. The probe is ongoing.
