Chandigarh police have arrested Ashok Mittal for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after a woman died following a family quarrel at her residence in Sector 35.
The victim, Santosh Mittal (50), was reportedly harassed due to an ongoing family dispute. The case was filed following a complaint by her son, Ajay Mittal.
Ajay stated that his uncle Ashok and his family lived in the same house where he and his mother resided. Ownership of the house was divided, with Ajay holding a 50% share and the remainder in his grandmother’s name. Frequent quarrels erupted over property possession.
On the night of August 20, Ajay was away when a spat broke out between his mother and uncle. Upon returning, he found his mother unconscious and immediately called the police. She was rushed to GMCH-32, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Ajay alleged that his uncle and aunt had attacked his mother deliberately, leading to her death.
Sector-36 police have registered a case and arrested Ashok Mittal. Investigations suggest the incident is linked to a family dispute and assault. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Police further stated that if evidence supports it, charges of murder and domestic violence may be filed. The aunt will also be questioned, and appropriate action will be taken if she is found involved.
