A 29-year-old domestic worker, Chandan Srikant Raul, has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewelry weighing 176 grams along with Rs 39,000 in cash, totaling nearly Rs 1 crore, from his employer’s home in JB Nagar.
Chandan, a resident of Sudhamanagar and originally from West Bengal, had been employed at the house of Tommo Kankainen and Mariela Moreno, American nationals from Texas currently living in Kodihalli.
On January 21, Kankainen flew to the United States, while Mariela, a software professional, left for work. Taking advantage of their absence, Chandan allegedly opened the home safe and stole the valuables.
Mariela discovered the theft upon returning home and immediately filed a complaint at JB Nagar police station at 4 pm, suspecting Chandan, who had worked for them for six months.
The police acted quickly, tracing Chandan to his Sudhamanagar residence and arresting him by 8 pm the same day. Authorities recovered all stolen items, including gold, diamonds, and US dollars.
“He had converted the foreign currency through a local agent and obtained Rs 39,000 in cash,” said an officer. “All stolen property has been seized.”
