In a major breakthrough, police arrested three individuals, including domestic help Chandan Kumar (20), for orchestrating a robbery worth over Rs1 crore at a businessman’s residence in Kavi Nagar on January 7. The arrests were made at Lal Kuan bus stand on Friday as the trio attempted to flee to Bihar.
The robbers — Chandan Kumar, Omprakash Kamat (20) from Supaul, Bihar, and Sunil Kumar (28) from Gonda — had looted the house of 78-year-old Ramdas and his wife Sumitra (77) at knifepoint. They escaped with Rs10.5 lakh in cash and jewellery valued at ₹50 lakh, which police have now recovered.
According to officials, Chandan had worked at the residence for two years and knew the location of all valuables. He allowed his accomplices to hide in a room behind the kitchen six hours before the robbery. The culprits took advantage of the non-functional CCTV system, disabled due to recent painting work.
Kamat, who was employed as a domestic worker in Delhi, is Sunil Kumar’s brother-in-law. All three have been booked under serious charges, and further investigation is underway.
