Bengaluru police have arrested a 29-year-old domestic help, Chandan, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, eight diamond rings, and cash worth around Rs1 crore from the villa of a US citizen on Rustum Bagh Main Road near Old Airport Road.

The complainant, Mariela Morino (54), a native of Texas, has been residing in the villa with her husband for the past one-and-a-half years. She works as a manager with an oil and gas company in Bellandur.

On January 21, Morino filed a complaint reporting the theft of eight diamond rings, gold bracelets (white and yellow), a gold necklace, and Rs38,000 in cash from a cupboard in her house.

Suspicious of her domestic staff, Morino’s seven helpers were questioned, and their fingerprints were collected. Chandan, who had been employed at the villa for six months, emerged as a suspect during the investigation.

During interrogation, Chandan allegedly confessed to the theft, and police subsequently recovered the stolen jewellery and cash from him. He has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
