A man in St. Johns County is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to break into a local card shop while his 3-year-old daughter was with him.
Chance Tyler Bennett was arrested on July 7 following surveillance footage and license plate reader data that connected him to the crime. On June 24, Bennett reportedly arrived at the Davoli Card Shop, grabbed a hammer, and threw a brick at a store window, triggering the alarm.
Video evidence shows Bennett dressed in dark clothing with his face covered by a bandana. His young daughter, wearing pink pajamas, was present in the car during the incident. Authorities say Bennett placed her back in the vehicle before vandalizing the window.
After the alarm sounded, Bennett fled the scene. He later admitted his actions, stating he intended to set off the alarm to attract police attention.
In addition to the break-in, Bennett is accused of using counterfeit money to purchase lottery tickets and Pokémon cards at the same shop.
He now faces charges including burglary, criminal mischief, child neglect, and more.
