In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Chamba police have arrested Arvind Kumar, a resident of Bhariyan village, near Chamba town, after seizing 27.94 grams of heroin (chitta) and Rs2.29 lakh in cash.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from the Sultanpur police post was conducting routine patrols along the Chamba–Mangla-Jot Road when they received information about illicit drug activities being conducted from a shop in Bhariyan. Following the lead, the police raided the location and discovered the narcotics and cash during a thorough search of the shop.
The accused, Arvind Kumar, was arrested, and a case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sadar Police Station, Chamba, confirmed Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav.
Kumar is a repeat offender with a history of involvement in drug trafficking cases, and ongoing legal proceedings are currently underway against him.
The accused was produced before a local court on Tuesday, which granted a three-day police remand for further investigation.
SP Yadav reiterated the police department’s determination to eliminate drug trafficking in the district. “We have laid a wide net to catch drug peddlers. No one involved in drug trafficking will be spared,” he said, urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to the drug trade.
