Chad Wray Arrested for Church AC Theft in Laurel

Delaware man faces multiple felony charges for theft

The Delaware State Police have arrested 50-year-old Chad Wray of Laurel, Delaware, in connection with the theft of air conditioning parts from two local churches.

On January 6, 2026, troopers responded to Saint Matthews First Baptist Church at 32129 Wolfe Street after reports of stolen AC unit parts. Later, on January 22, 2026, officers were called to ELIM Delaware Church at 33056 Bi State Boulevard following a similar theft involving parts from three air conditioning units.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the Laurel Police Department was also investigating a related theft at a residence on the 100 block of East 5th Street. Collaborative efforts between State Police and Laurel Police led to the identification of Wray as the suspect, and warrants were obtained for his arrest.

Wray was taken into custody on January 23, 2026, at Troop 4. He was charged and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, then released on a $23,600 unsecured bond.

The charges against Wray include:

Theft $1,500 or Greater (Felony) – 6 counts

Criminal Mischief $5,000 or More – Damage Property (Felony) – 5 counts

Criminal Mischief $1,000 but less than $5,000 – Damage Property

Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree

Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree

Authorities continue to investigate the incidents as part of an ongoing effort to prevent thefts targeting local churches and residential properties.
