Chad Daybell Sentenced to Death in Triple Murder Case
Chad Daybell, convicted of murdering his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and the two children of his second wife, Lori Vallow Daybell, has been sentenced to death. This sentence follows a year after Lori Vallow was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the same crimes.
Daybell was found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of Tammy, 7-year-old JJ Vallow, and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan. He was also convicted of conspiracy to murder and insurance fraud. Lori Vallow Daybell, who had been involved in the murders, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The investigation into the deaths gained national attention in 2019 when JJ and Tylee were reported missing. Their bodies were eventually found, and Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow were arrested while on their honeymoon in Hawaii shortly after Tammy’s death.
The couple’s fringe religious beliefs, which included a belief in “zombies” and evil spirits, were a key part of the case. Chad Daybell’s sentencing for capital murder follows a jury deliberation, but his sentencing for insurance fraud will occur at a later date.
On Friday, family members of the victims, including Tammy’s brother and the siblings of JJ and Tylee, gave victim impact statements. Daybell, who had not testified during the trial, also chose to remain silent during the sentencing phase.
Lori Vallow Daybell, after her conviction in Idaho, was extradited to Arizona, where she awaits trial for the 2019 murder of her ex-husband, Charles Vallow.
