LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – A man is facing second-degree murder charges following a fatal stabbing in Lake Charles on Tuesday evening.

Police responded to a welfare complaint near Gerstner Memorial Drive and Power Center Parkway around 5:40 PM. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in a field with multiple stab wounds. The victim was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities learned that the suspect might still be in the area and located Cesar Odulio Chavez-Perez, 38, at a nearby trailer park. He was detained and, after further investigation, arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.

A witness described Chavez-Perez as standing in the street at the time of his arrest, leading officers to swiftly apprehend him. The witness added that Chavez-Perez had caused issues in the area before, with residents frequently contacting the police.

Chavez-Perez is currently being held at the Calcasieu Correctional Center. His bond has not yet been set. Jail records also show that Chavez-Perez is facing an immigration detainer. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been contacted for more details on this matter.

The victim’s identity remains undisclosed as the investigation continues. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Lake Charles Police at 337-491-1311 or submit an anonymous tip via the LCPD app.
