BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Two suspects, Cecily Beltran, 37, and Marcos Martinez Jr., 29, were arrested early Wednesday morning following a mail theft in the Westward Pointe subdivision of west Bexar County.
Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mail theft call around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle on Gold Rush Creek, near Loop 1604 and Marbach Road.
Inside the car, officers found Beltran and Martinez along with a pile of stolen mail from at least 15 different residents. Remarkably, no mailboxes were damaged during the theft.
Residents described a significant police presence during the arrests. “There were about five, six cop cars and an investigator,” said neighbor Brooke Barajas. Another neighbor recalled the “big light show” as deputies conducted their investigation right outside his home.
Beltran claimed she was in the area to pick up someone, and both suspects denied knowledge of the stolen mail found under the passenger seat of their vehicle.
Neighbors expressed frustration about ongoing mail thefts, emphasizing the importance of accountability. “Those are people’s personal items, social security checks,” said KC Calderon.
The same neighbor planning to remain anonymous said he intends to start a neighborhood watch to prevent future incidents.
