In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday evening arrested two Union Bank employees in Sasaram, Bihar, after catching them red-handed accepting a Rs6,000 bribe inside the bank premises.
The arrested officials have been identified as:
Vijay Kumar – Branch Manager, Union Bank, Sasaram
Vicky Kumar – Clerk, Union Bank, Sasaram
The arrests were made following a complaint by Roshan Chaurasia, a local trader, who alleged that the duo had been harassing him and demanding money to approve a Mudra loan of Rs3 lakh. After verifying the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and recorded the accused accepting the bribe inside the bank branch.
Following the arrest, both bank officials were taken to Patna for further investigation and interrogation.
This is the second CBI arrest in Sasaram in less than a month. In June, the principal of a Kendriya Vidyalaya was caught accepting a Rs1 lakh bribe from a contractor to clear a pending fund release, signaling a worrying pattern of public sector corruption in the area.
A CBI source stated, “We acted after verifying the evidence. Both suspects were apprehended with marked currency, and more actions are likely based on the interrogation in Patna.”
The case has sparked public outrage, with calls for stronger accountability in the banking sector.
