The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Debashish Doley, a territory sales manager at Airtel in Silchar, Assam, for his alleged involvement in the unauthorized sale of SIM cards linked to multiple digital scams.

The operation, conducted on Wednesday, involved raids at five locations across Cachar district. Alongside Doley, two middlemen, Mahim Uddin Barbhuiya and Ashim Purkayastha, were also detained. The investigation revealed that these individuals facilitated the illegal issuance of SIM cards without the consent or knowledge of the actual subscribers.

CBI officials uncovered the sale of approximately 1,100 ghost SIM cards, which were reportedly used in cybercrimes originating from Southeast Asian countries targeting Indian citizens. This crackdown highlights the Indian government’s resolve to dismantle the networks enabling cybercriminal activities and to bring those responsible to justice.
