GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Cazmere Haskins, a Grand Forks teen charged with the murder of 24-year-old Anfernee Economy, has officially changed his plea. Haskins, who was 17 at the time of the stabbing, was initially scheduled for a court hearing in late November but had that hearing canceled. A new plea change hearing was set for December 9th.
The stabbing occurred in the early hours of March 7 outside an apartment on the 1700 block of 26th Avenue South in Grand Forks. Police say the altercation stemmed from a dispute about “relationship issues,” which escalated into a physical confrontation. According to court documents, Haskins later sent photos of a bloodied knife and, with a guardian present, admitted to stabbing Economy in the chest, claiming he acted in self-defense.
Cazmere Haskins is now set to be sentenced for felony murder on Friday, March 7, at 9 a.m.
