Casino Manager M.M.D.W. Herath Remanded in Rs. 373,300 Fraud

WhatsApp and Telegram scam under North Western CID probe

North Western Province, Sri Lanka — The manager of the Majestic Pride Casino at Lotus Tower has been remanded until January 22 over allegations of financial fraud involving Rs. 373,300.

Police from the North Western Province Computer Crimes Investigation Unit arrested 41-year-old M.M.D.W. Herath, a resident of Kalupahana, Weerakongama, following a complaint filed by a resident of Kuliyapitiya.

Herath is accused of deceiving an individual through WhatsApp and Telegram groups, falsely claiming that money could be earned using the Brandix brand name. Investigations revealed that approximately Rs. 9.2 million was credited to the suspect’s bank account within just two days under suspicious circumstances.

The Pilessa Magistrate remanded Herath, directing the CID to report on the progress of the investigation on January 22. Further inquiries are being conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Maleesha Herath, Officer-in-Charge of the North Western Province Computer Crimes Investigation Unit.
