Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation Chief Scott Eashappie has been arrested by the File Hills First Nations Police Service and charged with multiple financial crimes, including fraud, theft, money laundering, and breach of trust. The charges come after an ongoing investigation into his financial activities while serving as chief.

Eashappie, who was first elected in April 2022, has not provided further details about the charges but confirmed he is in contact with his lawyer. He told Global News he would refrain from commenting further until more facts are made available.

The chief is scheduled to appear in Indian Head Provincial Court on May 6, 2025, where further proceedings will take place. The case has raised significant concern within the Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation and beyond as authorities continue to investigate the allegations.

As is customary with criminal charges, Eashappie is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The outcome of the upcoming court date will determine the next steps in the legal process.
