NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) — Carrie Russell, a middle school teacher, was arrested on Sunday after being charged with two counts of DUI homicide. The charges stem from a fatal crash that occurred on February 16, 2024, where she collided head-on with a woman’s pickup truck, killing the driver and her unborn child.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Russell, 46, was seen swerving across State Road 45. She crossed the double yellow line and crashed into the truck driven by 29-year-old Amanda Jansen from Newberry, Florida. Jansen was pregnant at the time of the crash and tragically died from the collision.
Further investigations revealed that Russell was intoxicated and had tested positive for amphetamines. Despite the incident occurring over a year ago, she was arrested on Sunday and now faces two charges of DUI homicide.
Russell is listed as a teacher at Oak View Middle School in Newberry, Florida.
