Coimbatore city police arrested a carpenter, P Mathavan (38), from Kamaraj Nagar near Sundarapuram for stealing 20 sovereigns of gold from a residence near Sundarapuram.
Mathavan had been employed at P Daniel’s house in SIDCO for three months. On Thursday, while working on carpentry inside a bedroom, he found the wardrobe key unattended. Seizing the opportunity, he took the key and stole the gold ornaments stored inside the wardrobe.
The theft was discovered when Daniel’s son, Kevin, noticed the missing gold jewellery and promptly filed a complaint with Sundarapuram police. The police detained Mathavan the same evening and after interrogation, he confessed to the theft. Authorities have successfully recovered the 20 sovereigns of gold from him.
Police continue investigations to ensure no other accomplices are involved.
