Anti-narcotics detectives at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday intercepted a suspected drug trafficker attempting to smuggle narcotics to India.
The suspect, 25-year-old Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi, was apprehended just as she was preparing to board a flight to Goa, India.
Upon searching her luggage, officers discovered a white powdery substance carefully concealed and wrapped in yellow cellotape. A spot test confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms.
“Upon opening them, detectives found a white powdery substance neatly packed and wrapped in yellow cellotape, definitely not your average souvenir. A spot test confirmed the officers’ suspicions; the results indicated that the powdery substance was Cocaine weighing 1.3 kilograms,” stated the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Caroline is currently being held at the JKIA Police Station, where she is undergoing formal processing. She will be arraigned in court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the confiscated drugs have been secured as evidence.
