BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. — A Washington man is facing nearly 24 years in prison after multiple convictions related to trafficking approximately 8,543 pills of fentanyl, according to the Beaufort County District Attorney’s Office.
Carlos Lugo-Garcia, 27, was arrested at his home in Beaufort County on Friday, January 3, 2025, following an investigation led by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Craven County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
The probe began in late 2024, involving several undercover purchases of fentanyl from Lugo-Garcia. He subsequently pled guilty to Trafficking in Fentanyl by Transportation on three separate occasions: December 5, 2024, December 12, 2024, and January 3, 2025.
District Attorney Thomas Anglim thanked Beaufort County Sheriff Scott Hammonds, Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes, and the SBI for their roles in the investigation and arrest.
Lugo-Garcia’s sentencing is pending, with prosecutors seeking nearly two and a half decades of imprisonment due to the severity of the offenses.
