A 29-year-old man from Washington state, Carlos Jordan Lopez, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being caught with a large quantity of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest occurred in September 2023, following a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue for a routine infraction. During the stop, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers discovered nearly half a million fentanyl pills disguised as oxycodone, along with 45 pounds of cocaine. The drugs were cleverly concealed in a truck tire in the trunk of the vehicle Lopez was driving.

Altogether, the drugs seized had an estimated street value of $7.3 million. Lopez was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to drug possession and trafficking charges.
