MCALLEN, Texas — A 25-year-old former Donna resident, Carlos Chacon, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine, U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced.

Chacon admitted to supplying narcotics to Sergio Ivan Beas Rivera, a Mexican citizen, during a transaction in May 2024. Law enforcement witnessed the exchange and conducted a traffic stop on Rivera’s vehicle, discovering 31 cellphone-wrapped bundles weighing about 34 kilograms that tested positive for cocaine. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $2 million.

Chacon remains on bond pending sentencing, which is scheduled for September 16 before Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane. He faces up to life in federal prison and a possible fine of up to $10 million.

Beas Rivera, 42, previously pleaded guilty to his role in the case and is scheduled for sentencing on August 13 before U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton. He remains in custody.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with assistance from the Hidalgo County Constables Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose A. Garcia.
