PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Carlos Carballea, a known prolific offender, was arrested after investigators used his ankle monitor to trace his involvement in a series of thefts and pawn transactions across Palm Beach and Broward counties.
According to the Delray Beach Police Department (DBPD), the 42-year-old Carballea, who had recently been released from the Florida Department of Corrections, was allegedly part of a sophisticated operation that targeted high-value items for theft and resale.
Carballea’s criminal history includes offenses like aggravated assault, felony battery, theft, and trafficking in stolen property. The investigation, which began in August 2024, revealed a pattern of thefts from retail stores. The stolen goods were then pawned, with some transactions traced back to Crown Pawn, where Carballea reportedly received just $350 for stolen items valued at $2,814.94.
Among the stolen items were pickleball paddles, trading cards, and sports apparel. Investigators used surveillance footage, pawn records, and GPS ankle monitor data to track Carballea’s movements and his criminal activities, ultimately providing enough evidence to charge him with dealing in stolen property, false verification of ownership, and organized retail theft.
Stephen Mossor, an accomplice of Carballea’s, was also identified and charged with organized retail theft for his involvement in multiple theft incidents.
