Two Canyon Country residents were arrested Sunday morning after deputies discovered drugs and stolen checks in their vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle near Crossglade and Stillmore Streets for a code violation, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Upon contact, deputies observed narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain sight inside the vehicle, Miller said.
A subsequent search uncovered methamphetamine, loaded syringes, and a used nitrous oxide tank. Deputies also found multiple pieces of mail and pre-signed checks that did not belong to either occupant.
The driver, 36-year-old Brittany Longnecker, and passenger Ronald Ausborne, 31, both residents of Canyon Country, were arrested. They face felony identity theft charges, along with misdemeanor counts for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Due to previous drug-related convictions, Longnecker was additionally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with priors.
Both were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Ausborne was cited and released with a scheduled court date, while Longnecker remains in custody without bail.
