JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Candace Morris, a former employee of the Meridian Public School District, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling funds collected for drug screenings and background checks, according to State Auditor Shad White.
Morris was reportedly responsible for handling cash payments and issuing receipts for those services. Instead, she is accused of converting the collected money for personal use.
“We will continue to hold the line when it comes to improper spending of taxpayer dollars,” said Auditor White. “Our dedicated team works hard to get results for the people of Mississippi.”
If convicted, Morris could face up to 20 years in prison and $5,000 in fines for the embezzlement charge.
The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor reminds the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
