LOUDON, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Soki Hangi, a Canadian woman linked to a scam that defrauded individuals of at least $60,000.
Hangi, from Quebec, was part of a scheme targeting older adults in Loudon and Monroe Counties. The operation involved callers impersonating victims’ grandchildren, claiming they had been arrested and urgently needed money for bail. The scammers even used familiar nicknames, such as “Grandpa” or “Mamaw,” to persuade the victims.
Hangi acted as a courier, collecting the “bail money” from the victims. She was arrested just three days after arriving in Nashville to commence the scams.
Authorities suspect that many more individuals may have fallen victim to this scheme and encourage anyone with information to contact them at 865-458-9081.
